glock 17 with surefire x300

Glock 17 With Surefire X300 - There are two types of people in this world, those who appreciate a good holster and those who don't.

A good holster is the difference between a clean smooth draw and an easy, not being able to "raise your gun". It's not something you want to risk, even in airsoft. And that's why I'll happily spend what it takes to make sure my gun can always do what I ask of it. Anyone who says otherwise needs an education in the art of shooting.

It wasn't always like that though, I've had my fair share of poor holsters and more recently, some very good ones. From Safariland and Blackhawk!, to homemade Kydex and wait for it… Viper. Each had its own merits and concerns with its cons... Finding a holster that fits your gun and your personal requirements is a difficult task, sometimes you have to focus on the most important thing of what you want in your holster. , be it speed, maintenance or profile.

So how does this lead to why I bought the T.Rex Arms Ragnarok kydex holster? Well the answer is not particularly simple, but I will give you the short version. Lately I've been looking online for some Ace 1 Arms SAA PMags for my MWS. While adding to my cart at Boom Arms, I decided to look for threaded barrels and RMR cut slides to maybe make the whole package worth the higher postage.

I cut a ridiculously priced Nova FI RMR slide and a few other bits to make my "Roland(ish) special, probably the only RMR cut slide option for the Marui Glock 19. I have a certain love for guns and the Roland A Special is something I wanted to build since I saw it mentioned in "The Church." However, the size of the Roland Special's structure makes it somewhat challenging to assemble.

So, knowing the "bundled" Glock 19 probably wouldn't fit in my current Safariland 6354DO or my few kydex revolvers, the only option left was to look into getting another holster. The easy answer would have been to pick up another piece of kydex from Ryan at Backcountry Kydex or HW Holsters, but as both of these companies have been reviewed in the past and (with all due respect) not the universal brand that T.Rex Arms is. , I figured it was as good a time as any to get hold of one of the Botkin boy bags to see if they lived up to their reputation.

I bought mine from www.tactical-kit.co.uk (TK) as they are the only UK importers and dealers, I'm sure you can buy direct from the US but TK usually keep their stuff in stock (except nylon products from T.Rex Arms).

Surefire X300t Weapon Light

The Ragnarok is probably the flagship holster for the T.Rex Arm, it's definitely the first choice on their website which often shows up as the best seller. They make a few other IWB (Internal waist carry) holsters but the Ragnarok is their only externally worn holster.

There are three different types of T.Rex Arms Ragnarok, each suitable for a different weapon style. Compatible Standard and Light versions are both available to fit a range of small pistols and finally, the RagnarokSD, designed in two different models to fit a small number of pistols. It's also designed to work only with pistols equipped with a SureFire X300U/V weapon light, and a suppressor from the light itself.

So, I'm sure there are some of you out there who want to ask the obvious question "why is the T.Rex gun range only designed to fit a few weapons?" Well, T.Rex Arms makes pistol grips primarily for Glock style revolvers. The reason for this is simple, Glock according to at least one reliable source has a market share of 65% of the US gun market. Covering this large segment of the market makes sound business sense, but there is another reason…

The guys at T.Rex Arms are avid shooters. While some of the guns they make may seem unusual, it's usually because one of the guys at T.Rex Arms might have one of the guns themselves (Browning Hi-Power, FNX-45, HK VP9 etc) or thereabouts. enough demand to warrant making a holster for it (CZ75, SIG P226/P320, S&W M&P9 etc).

There is something else you should know about T.Rex Arms, it is one of the few businesses in the firearms community that not only recognizes but appreciates the global airsoft community. After watching @liku_tactical hone his skills with powered airsoft replicas in his native Japan, the guys at T.Rex Arms arranged for the Japanese Airsofter to visit the US and get his hands on a real gun for the first time. If you're the only person in the world who hasn't seen this video, it's below... And it's worth watching.

So, Ragnarok. What is it and why do you want one? Well, the kydex holster is made of one piece, taco style and its storage is fixed on its "open" side. The Kydex used is thick and rare 0.125" (3.2mm) available in black, buff brown, ranger green and printed Multicam/Multicam Black. I decided on black as I hope to keep this as a low key option, and at the time, the only color. in stock, which obviously makes the decision easier.

The Ragnarok is a passive holster, meaning the only way the holster is held is by the friction of the kydex that holds it inside. There is no additional mechanical element like the ALS system for Safariland, the Serpa system for Blackhawk or the hood like the 6004 and Safariland. BladeTech's WRS Hood System. The passive retention on the model I have uses a SureFire X300 bezel to lock the gun in place, this is fixed with two bolts on the open end.

The "open" end of Ragnarok, two adjustment bolts are seen at the top of the picture.

The cut of the Ragnarok is as smooth as you would expect from a popular holster, and it covered all the bases… Literally. Part of the trigger guard is completely covered by the holster. Unlike some well-made holsters where you can still slip a finger or two under the kydex, the Ragnarok is fully enclosed. The bottom of the holster, however, is completely open, meaning you can fit pistols with long slides (like a Glock 34) or revolvers with threaded barrels or full-sized compensators.

The interior has a small but effective sweat shield, a little away from the revolver that makes a slight drop into the main body of the holster, making it easy to re-point your gun and give you something. put your shirt on the back. The inner edge of the sweat guard is also stamped with the T Rex signature, a nice and striking touch that is unique to the product on all holsters.

I will not deny that it is a good looking holster, and it is surprisingly well finished for something that is mass produced. The cut Kydex is stapled to remove any sharp edges, I would imagine this is done by hand as it is not an easy job to program a machine to do.

I chose the belt loop mounting option, and this was mainly because I wanted something to use in a low profile configuration, but also because I have Safariland QLS mounting plates in my toolbox so if I want, I am. I can relate this to my shooter belt later down the line.

The belt loops are located in the center of the holster, this helps with the ergonomics of the holster and allows you to access the mounting hardware easily. The hinges and hardware feel pretty heavy, I'd suggest making sure there's a cord locking combination on yours before using it in anger, but other than that it's fine.

Note the angled profile of the seat belts, ergonomic and easy to access the retaining bolts.

As mentioned a moment ago, I'm looking to use this with the belt loops I ordered as my preferred mounting option. The holster has pre-selected holes, although this means you should be able to adapt this to a number of mounting solutions. I will use a Safariland QLS or mount it directly to one of the HW Holsters own offset mounting design, but judging by the hole spacing it should also work with RTI Hangers, Blackhawk! Serpa mounts, BladeTech mounts and several other mounting options.
